Highland Welcomes Its First Boutique Hotel: The Cardinal Hotel

Highland, Indiana, is set to welcome its first-ever hotel, addressing a long-standing gap as surrounding towns like Hammond and Munster have long offered accommodations.

The Cardinal Hotel, a 35-room boutique property, is rising at the heart of the $18 million Cardinal Campus, located near Main Street and Indianapolis Boulevard.

This project is led by Dr. Claude Gendreau, an acclaimed veterinary surgeon behind the campus, whose Veterinary Orthopedic Center draws pet owners nationally in search of specialized care.

The hotel will serve those visitors and others, offering added convenience and upscale amenities like a conference room, gym, and a stylish bar with light dining.

Construction is moving forward, planning for a grand opening by mid-September next year after pandemic delays.

The new hotel is expected to elevate Highland’s hospitality profile and strengthen Cardinal Campus as a local hub for medical and professional services.

Residents eagerly await this promising addition.

Hammond's Faith-Based Education Expands with New School and Universal Voucher Eligibility

Hammond will soon welcome the new Hammond Riverside Christian School, scheduled to open in Fall 2026, reshaping K-12 faith-based education options across the city.

The school launches through the partnership For Generations to Come—which includes Illiana Christian High School, Crown Point Christian School, and Highland Christian School—after acquiring the former Spohn Elementary site from City Baptist Schools.

Initially serving 126 students in grades K-5, Hammond Riverside aims to expand to 1,040 Pre-K through 12th grade seats.

Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. expressed strong support, emphasizing the city’s dedication to diverse educational choices.

This new school arrives as Indiana’s Choice Scholarship Program removes income limits, making private school tuition assistance available to all families in 2026-2027.

Local enrollment numbers suggest more families are choosing private schools, with faith-based options in especially high demand.

The arrival of Hammond Riverside Christian School further broadens these vital options for local families seeking faith-focused education.
